Sextile - Albeit Living (felte) 2017

A Thousand Hands was a sick ride of post-apocalyptic darkwave with an almost cathartic element. Feasting on the remains of post-punk and darkwave milestones, pushing them further with dense layers of spacey synths, punishing drumbeats and almost delusional vocals, Sextile’s first LP was one of the most exciting releases of 2015, a sick ride through some underground police state disco-squat. Albeit Living, their new LP, still delivers exciting material but some of what made A Thousand Hands such an exquisite album seems to be gone. One understands the will to not repeat the same recipe, but while holding on to some good production and incendiary songwriting with an electro psych-rock edge, it’s hard to say Albeit Living is nearly as original or exciting as its predecessor. It’s still worth checking out.
