The Underground Youth Return With New Single + Lyric Video “Fill The Void”

With The Underground Youth ninth album in the works, the band have now announced a brand new 7” titled Fill The Void, due for release via Fuzz Club on September 8th.

To announce the new release The Underground Youth are sharing a video for the A-side single “Fill The Void”. Talking about the track and self-produced video, Craig Dyer explains: “With this new material I was exploring new techniques in writing due to the fact I was working on, and have now finished, writing a novel. That changed my view on writing lyrics quite a lot. Somewhat similar to the old Dadaist cut-up technique, the lyrics came from splicing together ideas from old notebooks that I recently found dating back to 2010. The video was also borne out of this same technique, focussing solely on the lyrics as they were typed out. I filmed it all really quickly and edited it the same way, it has this lo-fi urgency that I really love.”

We’d been experimenting with a completely different sound whilst in the studio recording our ninth album. What we created with these two tracks wasn’t really what I was looking for and so I almost scrapped them,” Craig continues: “I just couldn’t shake the rhythm of ‘Fill the Void’ though, we ran through the track as a band and took it out on the road. It fast became one of the most exciting tracks of our set, with Olya’s pounding drum and Leo jumping on the additional snare towards the end. When we got back from the tour we revisited the tracks in the studio and decided to use them for a special release.”
