Thrice – Palms (Epitaph Records) 2018

Thrice orchestrate songs of purpose yet again on their new record Palms. The Californian band, nestle between love and hate, painfully writing down their feelings like stories, notes describing destruction and chaos. From the beginning Palms oozes darkness and decaying dreams, it explores many hard times, exploring hopelessness, and with all that hovering over the album, it still rules. The guitar frenzy is volatile but adds intensity and the undercurrent of powerful lyricism takes the record to dizzying heights.
Over the course of the opus, we’re also taken into worlds marred by discontent, as the words tell all, as the vocals blast through the atmosphere. As a whole the record springs into life as songs such as “The Grey” and “The Dark pulsate”, removing any chance of mediocrity. Those musical elements intertwine wonderfully well too, and overall Palms elevates Thrice as a true mainstay.
