Tim Hecker – Konoyo

Tim Hecker - Konoyo (Kranky)

The grandmaster of sonic manipulation is back with Konoyo, and right off the bat we can see that his brand of peaceful melancholy is present yet again. The interplay with musicians from the Tokyo Gakuso ensemble (with methods perhaps similar to those employed in “Virgins”) contributes to the otherworldly vibe of the album and elicits the simple act of contemplation from the listener. Tracks such as “Keyed Out” and “Across To Anoyo” particularly have rich sound textures which you are very likely to lose yourself in. Though perhaps not as emotionally shattering as some of Tim Hecker’s previous work, Konoyo seems, instead, to have the ability to lift the souls of its listeners into a realm of meditative bliss with soothing grace.
