Tropical Fuck Storm - A Laughing Death in Meatspace (Joyful Noise Recordings)

Tropical Fuck Storm’s – the new band formed by Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin (The Drones), joined by Lauren Hammel (High Tension) and Erica Dunn (Harmony, Palm Springs) – debut album might be one of the most wonderful gifts that any music fan has received in these last few years. Sure, every year there are at least a bunch of dozens great records released but just a few reach this level.

There are so many elements to it – from the punk blues to the art punk, going through a very strong psychedelic infused rock that also dares to be progressive and experimental – and it goes in so many directions that ends up being astounding witnessing how well composed and coherent that final result actually is. There’s chaos, a violent edge fueled by aggression, and a rawness that’s as sharp as a wakizashi, but on the other extreme there are countless heart-warming melodies and an undeniable passion… It’s this amalgamation and how skillfully it was carved that makes A Laughing Death in Meatspace one of the most accomplished albums of recent memory.

Nothing sounds stale or even a mere consequence of a certain causality. Tropical Fuck Storm just gave a new meaning to gut-wrenching.
