It has landed online the first teaser trailer for Nate Parker‘s The Birth of a Nation.
Set against the antebellum South, the film follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.

The Birth of a Nation premiered in competition at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, where it received an enthusiastic standing ovation. Fox Searchlight Pictures bought the worldwide rights to the film for $17.5 million, the largest deal at the festival to date.
The film will be released in theaters on October 7th.
