If you tread your own path you’re bound to create fans and detractors equally devoted to their beliefs. Since their inception as doom metal stalwarts to the present icons of alternative rock with progressive influences a lot has changed musically and this band that never rested on their laurels, continues to create beautiful sound tapestries that are equal parts melodic and sorrowful. In a certain way they never stopped being a doom metal band, they just mutated and experiment with their sound creating a perfect concoction of Pink Floyd experimentalism with alternative rock textures to create the band we see nowadays. More metal in their willingness to experiment than the heaviness of their sound but still as powerful and forceful as they’ve ever been.
