Dead Heavens - Whatever Witch You Are (Dine Alone Records) 2017

Music needs to lull and scare, and grip and pull you. Occasionally it has to rough you up a bit, and other times you are looking for it to blow cigar smoke in your eyes and throw a whiskey down your throat before laying a solid gold finger ringed fist in your gut. Dead Heavens get this. WWYA is a fuzzy, bluesy, smokey blues rock combination that sounds simultaneously like a gangster movie from the 70’s – set in a seedy, character filled pool hall, peddling cheap drugs and cheaper women and a good line in scotch – and also, like a dope filled behemoth sludging his way throw reefer smoke filled swamps to lay out Godzilla. It’s a dense, wonderfully produced album that screams for a big audience, and that drips personality and charisma.
