We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Mythic Sunship’s brand new song “Backyard Ritual” (listen below), track taken from their new album Another Shape of Psychedelic Music, scheduled to be released on October 5th via El Paraiso Records.
The band said the following about their new single: “Our new album, ‘Another Shape of Psychedelic Music’, represents an evolution of our sound and “Backyard Ritual” is a great example of this. Starting out with clear inspiration from afro-beat music, the song also draws heavily on electric 70’s jazz such as Miles Davis, Donald Byrd and Herbie Hancock. We settled on the title, a reference to a Davis tune, as it embodies this melting pot of varied inspiration, emphasizing the added layers of tribal percussion and heavy wah guitar. To us, “Backyard Ritual” is like a simmering sunlit cauldron – the sound of hazy esotericism in an otherwise blissful suburban garden.”
Another Shape of Psychedelic Music was recorded and mixed in the studio of Causa Sui’s Jonas Munk’s, he even joins these live sessions on guitar on a few tracks as well, making up a screaming cacophony of 3 guitars, bass, drums and saxophone.
