Belarusian trio Molchat Doma have shared a new video for the single “Ne Smeshno”, which is the first to be taken from their new album, Monument, due out on November 13 via Sacred Bones Records.
The accompanying video was directed by filmmaker Darya Zhuk, who commented on it saying: “When I first heard Ne Smeshno, I knew in my bones the song was intensely relevant to our current pandemic times, and I immediately started developing the idea of the world “waking up” from the quarantine. I was also inspired by the current revolutionary events in the band’s native Belarus, where people are suddenly seeing a very harsh reality after living in the dictatorship for 26 years. We fought hard against production risk to shoot in Belarus, but we got lucky to capture symbols of the authentic spirit of the band’s native city of Minsk in these tumultuous times. I hope the video can act as an antidote to horrible news we watch everyday while providing a poetic explanation to what’s happening.“.
