We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Sharp/Shock‘s video for their new song “Bad Lad“ (watch below), which is taken from the band’s sophomore album Youth Club, due to be released on May 25th via Heart & Skull.
Singer/guitarist Davey Warsop said the following about this new track: ”Years before making it to LA with my first record deal, I had worked in a brush factory near Birmingham, England. It was a pretty uninspiring place to spend your days. Bad lad was actually inspired by a few of my co workers- there were some real nutters in that place.
One of my oldest friends —Dean Ashton— is actually an incredible upcoming actor (known for British kitchen sink indie-dramas such as “Billy Blue” and “Iron Butt”) and he loved the song. I knew he would nail the part, since he’s becoming known for similar rolls so we just let him go to town.”
Listen & watch Sharp/Shock’s video for their raw and straight to the point new track “Bad Lad”.
The power punk trio comprised of singer/guitarist Davey Warsop (Beat Union, Suedehead), bassist/vocalist Dan Smith (The Dear & Departed; world-renowned tattoo artist) and Jared Shavelson (The Hope Conspiracy, Paint It Black), has its heart in the agit-punk of The Clash, the confrontational attitude of Rancid and the incendiary punk of Stiff Little Fingers.
On May 25th the band will release their sophomore album, Youth Club, Warsop said about their new album: “Following a near death experience, a failing relationship, an existential crisis and the culture shock of a trip home to England after not being allowed to leave America for five years, I wrote all the songs on Youth Club inside 2 weeks. Needless to say, I was dealing with some strange shit in my life and most of it gets covered on this record – existentialism, dealing with the pressure of everyday life (and death), rejecting family traditions and gender rolls within relationships, working class repression, anti-violence, nostalgia… just dealing with our past whilst questioning what’s right for our future and where we belong or fit in in life.
In a purge of creativity, I wrote all the songs incredibly fast — on gut instinct — and tried not to question lyrics or arrangements too much. I just did what came naturally. And I think this makes the record urgent and real. Definitely our strongest set of songs.”
