New York City’s Sons Of An Illustrious Father – comprised of Josh Aubin, Lilah Larson, and Ezra Miller share the video for track “When Things Fall Apart” taken from new album, Deus Sex Machina: Or, Moving Slowly Beyond Nikola Tesla out June 1st.
The video for “When Things Fall Apart” is a beautifully realised collaboration between members of Sons’ closest circle. These include director and photographer Rafe Scobey-Thal, who directed their previous video for “Extraordinary Rendition;” Bobbi Jene Smith, a modern dancer (who danced with the renowned Batsheva dance company for 10 years); Marta Miller (Ezra’s mother, a dancer, choreographer and all around artist); and filmmaker and writer Brooklyn Demme.
The process of shooting the video was one big trust fall for everyone – an agreement to be vulnerable and intimate. The existence of the song itself is also a testament to the trust and support that exists within the band and the space held for them by their community.
In Lilah’s own words; “When Things Fall Apart” was written for a beloved member of the community going through a painful but fruitful transition. Taking cues from the book by the same name by Pema Chodron, it’s about embracing the mess that is change, allowing oneself to face fear and move through it and on to the next stage.”
